The Details
The CYP-L5 is a post-qualifying qualification designed to give learners the specialist knowledge, skills and competences to work as counsellors of young people aged 11-18.
It is also highly important to note that this course is CPCAB accredited meaning you can guarantee a high quality of teaching. If you wish to know more about this, please click the button below.
The course aims to combine theoretical teaching with real-world experience in order to build your understanding and confidence. This is achieved by a blend of in-person and online class teaching, group discussions, skills practice through role-play scenarios, reflective journaling and written assignments.
The CYP-L5 also requires you to undertake actual client work. You must complete a minimum of 60 hours in 1-to-1, formally contracted counseling of children and young people. These hours must include client assessment and practice work with at least 4 separate clients between ages of 11-18. The majority of which must be completed face to face.
During the class teaching, you will be required to take part in group training supervision. This means you must present your work, receive supervisory support and challenges from not only your tutor but peers as well allowing everyone to learn from each other.
In addition, your must have clinical supervision for all of your client work. Client hours should be appropriately supervised and approved by your tutor. You should meet the supervision ratio requirements of your chosen professional membership association/ethical framework.
Finally, you need a minimum of 20 hours of personal counselling. These sessions must take place before the end of the course.
The CYP-L5 is taught by Ri Punt as the primary tutor. They run and own CTS so they also have their own private practice of counselling and supervision clients alongside the teaching.
It is important to try and think about this not just as another course or a qualification but instead it is the next step in your counselling career. So if you are interested, get in touch using this button below.
