Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

A circular flow diagram illustrating the cycle of negative thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Negative thoughts create negative feelings, which lead to negative behavior, which then reinforces negative thoughts, continuing the cycle.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an approach to therapy that focuses on learning to interrupt, rationalise and revaluate negative, spirals of cognition. The therapist teaches their client how to recognise when they are spiraling but more importantly, how to then interrupt the spiral, most commonly, by having to find evidence for thier negative thoughts. If there is no evidence that the negative thought is needed, it is a smart idea to let it go.
